Winter woollies

It's only February, and it can be very cold- in fact, it has been bitterly cold.
That is my excuse anyway.
Now, I promise I will only put this on my dog in case it is actually really very cold.
But I did read that small dogs feel the cold more.
So this is what I whipped up for my dog.

I will show you a quick how-to-do this just in case you might want to keep your pooch warm too.I can knit OK, but in this case I decided to get the thing done quickly, so I use a ready-made jumper.
This was my starting point.
And this the top of the jumper- which you will see will come in handy.

Take your dog and a piece of calico or cotton. This is what they do in couture -houses, to make the initial pattern. At least that is what I was told at art-school at the textile lessons! Pin the cotton so it forms a coat , and cut holes for the arms like below.
Cut the fabric according to your pattern. What you are basically aiming for will be a shape like it could contain a big sausage with the top and the bottom open .Use the top of jumper again for the top of the dog-jumper,
and use some buttons as decorations to the side.Make sure - as this is all knitted material, you use the button-hole stitch to make sure you have no frayed ends.
This is the jumper -without the dog.

This is the jumper on the right - see above.
And this is the jumper from the left.
And this is the jumper from the front.
It's pretty easy- give it a go !!! Good luck and happy crafting !!!

Dearest Bea,

Oh, Millie looks so adorable; almost edible in her new sweater! You are genius and the way Millie took all the 'designing' so serious and look how vain she's looking into the camera! Like, look world what my human Mom made for me. The buttons are clever too as Millie has one side with dark facial hair and it matches her nose. She's precious!

Lots of love,

Mariette

Oh My Heavens! That is Precious!

I see you are blessed with a seriously well-behaved dog and the sweater is adorable too!

I would love to make something like it for my little guy, but getting the measurements would be like wrestling an alligator.

Great idea though!
