What a difference a year makes ..

This year, my self-grown perennials, started last year, as tiny plants ,grown from seedpackets, have really come into their own. I am wading my way through the front-garden this year with chin-high Bergamot plants ( great for bees by the way- they love this plant),

Shasta daisies,

and cone flowers,

There is much more to come, but I am already surprised how huge and vigorous the plants are. They certainly will need separating coming autumn or fall !
Compare this with last year- where I incorporated the perennial plants as part of a "potager" ( vegetable patch ) in the front garden- and see how small everything was.

What a difference a year makes!
Not only in the garden, but also on the Modern Country lady team, there have been changes.

We lost our lovely dog Harris, a Jack Russell- terrier cross ,  at the ripe old age of 16.
Here is Harris at his very best- doing what he loved best.He was a brilliant football player.:-)

And we got a pair of lovely kittens, Tilda and Thomasina. Here they are last year at
about 8 weeks old...napping away

They have become much bigger but luckily have remained as silly and naughty as ever.

And since last December, Millie and Maud, two lovely and sily terrier cross sisters, have joined us.
They're almost like a miniature version of Harris, but with completely different personalities, and great fun plus super company, wherever you go.
What a difference a year makes !

Bea, what a beautiful garden you have. Love your images. And what a great curative power kittens have on grief (so sorry to hear about your loss of Harris). And my... Millie and Maud. How utterly adorable. Seems like your heart must be filled with joy again.

Dearest Bea,

Indeed, one year compared with the previous or whatever, can make a huge difference. Our garden is struggling and it looks like we will lose all our roses to the heat and drought. But life goes on...
Your garden is very lush and what a feast for bees and other critters!
How is Gibson after these two weeks? Does he cope with his treatment and is he at ease?
How about your tablecloth? Did it work with the stain removal? I hope all is well.
On our end, things look a lot better than last week. I am more cautious as to what I eat the day I take my Atelvia pill and also I learned not to take the baby-aspirin that day. So far-so good! Thanks again for your love and support; it really picked me up.

Lots of love,

Mariette
